Man Utd Thrash Juventus 4-1
07/31/2003. Manchester United thrashed Juventus 4-1 in New York on Thursday
night.
Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored
their goals against the team that finished runners-up in last season's Champions
League final. Pavel Nedved replied for the Old Lady in front of a packed Giants
Stadium.
The pick of the goals was Dutch international van Nistelrooy's. He brought a
superb pass from transfer target Juan Sebastian Veron down on his chest before
swivelling and volleying the ball home superbly in one smooth movement.
Veron was the star of the show before being substituted, producing a passing
masterclass that suggested United would be ctazy to sell him to a Premiership
rival - and underlining why Sir Alex Ferguson wants to keep the Argentine
midfielder at Old Trafford.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard also enjoyed a fine game for United, making several
important saves.

Lippi Furious With His Team

08/01/2003. After the bad defeat suffered at the hands
of Manchester United, Juventus boss Marcello Lippi criticized the performance of
his players.
"When one plays against teams like Manchester United you know you can lose,
but I don't like to see players that play for themselves instead of the
team," said Lippi.
"I saw players who lost balls and didn't fight to regain them," he
added.
Juventus were inflicted a 4-1 humiliation by Manchester United in New York on
Thursday.
They face AC Milan in the Big Apple on Sunday for the Italian Super Cup.
