PUNTA CANA

Jan 16-24, 2007

Since Shiela only gets 2 weeks vacation, and we're already booked to go to Italy in May, for two weeks ... me and my mom headed to Punta Cana for a week to get some sun and relaxation.

Got on a "Sunwing" plane to Punta Cana, along with several other sun hungry Canadians at way-too-early-o'clock on Tuesday. Here's our airport.

Arrived in Punta Cana's airport a few hours later.

Here's me and my mom right off the plane ... love the thatched roofs.

Check out this ceiling fan in the airport. It has blades that are in the neighbourhood of 8 feet long ... then check out the manufacturer's name.

Here are some shots from the ride to the resort.

The resort doesn't really bespeak the rest of the country, but I wasn't here on a political mission. Although, their local beer is called "El Presidente", and in THAT regard, I suppose you could say I had a "lot of governmental interaction" ... at any rate, bocce court in the foreground, on the right.

Here's the beach.

Here's the view, looking up from my deck chair.

Looking at the water on the beach.

Self portrait on the beach.

White sand beach.

Every night they had entertainment at this roofed amphitheatre, it was kinda like the Dominican version of a Brady Bunch variety show.

They don't have "American Standard" urinals there.

Me and my mom prior to dinner one night.

Check out the banana tree.

Here's a view from the piano bar terrace.

Same terrace during the day.

We were involved in a Bocce tournament organized by the Italian "Columbus Club" guides .... we beat our German adversaries, before losing to more Italians. Then those Italians, lost to other Italians, in the final. It got pretty serious by the end.

The beach at night.

Here are the views from our balcony ... to the restaurants and to the beach.

Got back to minus 13 degree weather .. but at least I have a tan.

Good times.
