Ottawa Excursion 2007
Sept 21 - 23, 2007
So this years Canada Day in Ottawa excursion was postponed several times, and in light of the overdue nature of the visit - we made it down to Ottawa and stayed with Darren at his recently occupied, new home in Aylmer, Quebec. His place is in Quebec, about a 12min ride from the Parliament buildings in Ottawa - which means, when we ran out of beer, we simply went to the gas station/quickie mart. Bless that Province.
On Saturday, Darren had to wait for the proverbial "Cable Guy" to set up his internet.
We made it to Ottawa for a walk through the market, trip to the National Art Gallery (saw the permanent collection), did some shopping, had coffee, etc - bbq'd and had a great day - unfortunately, I forgot my camera in my bag. So here are some pics from my phone.
We did some public art appreciation on our way to the National Gallery.
We went to see the National Gallery's permanent collection (a Monet show just ended), but in the contemporary gallery there was an art film (that I own), that was playing.
It was purely for art reasons that I sat through some more of what I already have on DVD.
A picture from the Lowblaw's. I like the "Sank-Aunt".
So Sunday I snapped some shots with my new camera before we left.

This is the ground floor - Darren made some good changes to open up the space. And the woods/colours all give it an airy open feel.

This is the tv where I watched Juventus tie Roma, 2-2.

So we went out for breakfast after the game, prior to heading out. You'll notice - it's before noon and our table neighbours were well into the beer.
Before leaving for Toronto, we went back to Ottawa for a last peek (and a Starbucks). Here is what I refer to as The "Crazy Canopy" building

Rue Sparks Street

There was a neat little building near Darren's place, in Quebec ... I'm not sure what it is, but it had an interesting presence - especially at night.

The facade had these pivoting coloured glass panels, behind the curtain wall.

This is what happens to Sheel, just after you startle her ...

It was a beautiful fall drive. Awesome time.
(I'm going back to Ottawa to do a golf weekend in a few weeks, watch for pics)
