Pittsburgh Excursion 2008
October 17th - 19th, 2008
First we went to Weirton, West Virginia to hang out with some of my cousins ... the last time I was there was when I was 17.
My cousins!
The next day, we headed to Pittsburgh to check into the hotel and made our way to down to Falling Water. About a 1 1/2 hour drive from Pittsburgh.
The cantilevers struck me more in person than any photo could have ever done.
My first project in architecture school was to build a model of Falling Water and since then it left me with an incredible desire to see it.

Shortly after we took this shot, this me and Sheel had a great moment. And then headed back to Pittsburgh.
Took in some of Pittsburgh's archi-sights.
We had dinner reservations at Lidia's Pittsburgh, she's my favourite cooking personality ... most of my PVR is full of her PBS show.

I had one of the top three meals I've ever had in the US. I had the 'famous' 3 pasta sampler, Sheila had a delicious pasta dish.
We had tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins - Toronto Maple Leafs game.
The hockey game started at 7, so we made our way over to the Igloo ... here's the view of the rink from the hotel. (I booked us in the Double Tree, across the street)

We weren't the only Toronto supporters.

Toronto lost 4-1.
But I've always likes the Stadium. It's a classic and really represented a forward minded stadium design. Edgar Kaufman Sr (who also commissioned Falling Water) was central to this design getting built. Here's the interesting history ... http://www.pittsburghhockey.net/Common/CivicArena/CivicArena.html

Next day, we buzzed around Pittsburgh ...

Then we went to the Warhol Museum.
Seven floors of Warhol. Stunning.
Then we stopped in Buffalo and went to the famous Anchor Bar & Grille, where Chicken Wings were invented.
And made it back to Toronto in time to catch Domenica Sportiva and all of the soccer highlights I missed while in Pittsburgh.
