Venice Bridge Competition, 2006
Submitted July 17, 2006
This is the competition submission I sent in to design a bridge and museum, in Venice, Italy. The idea is that the Academia Bridge is replaced by a glass bridge with glass spiral stairs at either end. The walking surface wouldn't be glass, but the proposal is to build the trusses, guards and stairs all from glass. The museum, entered from the bridge at the second level, is a glass box, with a two story gallery at the top level.
The notion is to make this insertion as transparent as possible and take inspiration from the profile of the existing Academia Bridge.
Mike Rietta helped lay out the program, and also helped me out with the floor plans.
Results come later this summer, previous competition experiences make me not expect much, but don't worry ... I'll blame Mike.
